What is a power flush?
A power flush is a deep clean of your central heating system using specialist equipment. The engineer connects a high-flow, high-pressure pump to your system and circulates a powerful chemical solution through all the pipework, radiators, and boiler heat exchanger to dislodge and flush out:
The contaminated water is flushed to drain and replaced with clean water and inhibitor.
Signs you need a power flush
Does every boiler installation need one?
If you're having a new boiler fitted into an existing heating system that's more than 5 years old, a power flush is strongly recommended — and often required by the boiler manufacturer to maintain warranty. Fitting a new boiler into a contaminated system can shorten its life significantly.
How long does it take?
A typical power flush on a 10-radiator house takes 4–6 hours. Larger systems with more radiators take proportionally longer.
What happens after?
The engineer adds a corrosion inhibitor to the clean system and fits a magnetic filter (Magnaclean or similar) to the boiler return pipe. The filter catches future sludge before it reaches the boiler, extending boiler life. The filter is cleaned annually during your boiler service.
